Spotify Expands Its Free Audiobooks Perk to Canada, Ireland, and New Zealand
Spotify has announced the extension of its popular free audiobooks perk to three new countries – Canada, Ireland, and New Zealand. This move follows the successful introduction of this feature in the United States, United Kingdom, and Australia.
In addition to offering 15 hours of complimentary audiobook listening each month, Spotify has expanded its audiobook library from 200,000 to 250,000 titles. The company’s audiobook service ranks as the second largest globally, trailing only behind Amazon-owned Audible. Since its debut in November last year, over 150,000 audiobook titles have been enjoyed through the platform.
To access audiobooks on Spotify, users simply need to visit the Home feed within the app or use the Search tab. Titles labeled “Included in Premium” are accessible with a Spotify Premium subscription. Listening hours can be monitored in the app’s Settings section, while additional 10-hour blocks can be purchased for CAD $14.99, IRE €12.99, and NZD $19.99 if needed.
Recently, Spotify introduced a $9.99 per month plan enabling non-subscribers to access the audiobook collection in the US. With 15 hours of listening included, this initiative serves as a competitive alternative to Audible, targeting those less inclined towards Spotify’s musical offerings. Unlike Audible’s $14.95 monthly subscription, which provides one credit to acquire a book, Spotify’s lower-priced option enables listeners to consume up to 15 hours worth of content from its vast catalog – typically sufficient duration to complete multiple audiobooks.
Conclusion: As part of its ongoing efforts to diversify its services beyond music streaming, Spotify continues to expand its audiobook reach. By introducing ‘Countdown Pages’, the platform aims to create anticipation around forthcoming new releases, further solidifying its position in the audiobook market.
