Uber Eats Introduces Live Location-Sharing Feature to Aid Couriers in Hard-to-Find Locations

Uber Eats recently rolled out a new live location-sharing capability to assist couriers in locating customers in challenging areas. This includes public spaces such as university campuses, parks, and recreation facilities. As of now, the feature is accessible in all regions excluding Quebec. With availability in over 11,000 cities worldwide, Uber Eats aims to streamline the process of delivering orders to clients in difficult spots.

When placing a “meet outside” or “meet at door” request through Uber Eats, users will receive a notification informing them that their position is being transmitted to the courier. The feature activates approximately three minutes before the estimated arrival time and remains active until the order is dropped off if the user is within 100 meters of the designated area. Customers have the option to deactivate the function whenever desired.

The implementation of this technology comes as a response to challenges faced by couriers during peak seasons when individuals frequently place orders for outdoor gatherings, such as birthday parties. In June 2023, Domino’s Pizza unveiled a comparable solution called Pinpoint Delivery, enabling customers to mark a specific spot on the map for precise delivery.

Divya Dalapathi, Director of Product Management at Uber, expressed her excitement regarding the addition of location sharing to Uber Eats, stating, “We’re delighted to introduce location sharing to Uber Eats and enhance dependability for each consumer receiving their delivery.” Following successful integration into the Uber ride platform in 2017, Uber recognized the potential benefits of implementing this feature on Uber Eats, particularly for those ordering from intricate locales like offices, parks, and extensive residential complexes.
